8th September 2019

Hedge maintenance, Borrow Pit Meadows, near Alsager

We’ll be further clearing competing growth from around the trees we planted in the last couple of years along the Easy Access Trail.

Bramble clearance, Borrow Pit Meadows, near Alsager

We’ll be working in our new “adopted” area, between the brook and the Salt Line. Name soon to be announced – watch this space!

20th October 2019

Dead hedging & maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

We’ll be continuing to install and repair a dead hedge around the “Brimstone Pond”, so as to protect this area for the benefit of wildlife.

3rd November 2019

Heathland maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

This time with the aid of a winch we have on permanent loan from another local group, we’ll be removing small trees and vegetation that has encroached onto the heath.


17th November 2019

Coppicing & Bonfire, Borrow Pit Meadows/Salt Line, near Alsager

We’ll be doing some coppicing to improve the under storey in the wooded areas along the Salt Line. The cuttings then fuel a bonfire in which we cook baked potatoes for our lunch.


1st December 2019

Step replacements, Astbury Mere Country Park, Congleton

We’ll be finishing the work we started in January, on a scenic path that leads through the woodland and overlooks the Mere.

15th December 2019

Tree planting, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

To improve the under storey tree cover in the birch woodland we’ll be planting saplings of, for example, hazel and hawthorn.

We’ll be continuing the resurfacing work we began last month.

Heathland maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

To protect the rare and wildlife rich habitat of lowland heath we’ll be removing small trees (e.g. birch) that have encroached or re-grown on the heath.

3rd July 2016

Himalayan Balsam bash, Swettenham Meadows Nature Reserve

We’ll be returning to the woodland of this Cheshire Wildlife Trust managed reserve in our annual attempt to control the spread of this rapidly growing plant which would otherwise overwhelm the native flora.
