Meadow maintenance, Borrow Pit Meadows, near Alsager

We'll be raking and removing unwanted scrub

23th September 2018

Heathland maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

On a global scale, lowland heath is rare, and 20% of the world's heath is found in the UK. We'll be helping to conserve this important habitat by clearing small trees and bramble that has spread on to places where new heather is growing.

Woodland maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

The woodland provides scope for a variety of tasks for us to do that improve the value of this habitat for wildlife.

18th November 2018

Tree planting and/or scrub removal - Public Open Day, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

We'll be putting our work (either tree planting and/or scrub removal) on display.

 

2nd December 2018

Coppicing & Bonfire,

Borrow Pit Meadows/Salt Line, near Alsager

We'll be doing some coppicing to improve the under storey in the wooded areas along the Salt Line. The cuttings are then added to a bonfire which has the bonus of being used to cook baked potatoes for our lunch.

16th December 2018

Deadhedging and maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

This task will be based around the pond that we look after. As well as protecting this valuable habitat, the deadhedge acts as a useful wildlife corridor.

 

30th December 2018

Hedgelaying, Alderley Edge

We'll be carrying on for where we left off last winter, working along the field boundaries in the farmland just beyond the main site. Meet at the National Trust car park, near the Wizard Inn.

We’ll be continuing the resurfacing work we began last month.

Heathland maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

To protect the rare and wildlife rich habitat of lowland heath we’ll be removing small trees (e.g. birch) that have encroached or re-grown on the heath.

3rd July 2016

Himalayan Balsam bash, Swettenham Meadows Nature Reserve

We’ll be returning to the woodland of this Cheshire Wildlife Trust managed reserve in our annual attempt to control the spread of this rapidly growing plant which would otherwise overwhelm the native flora.
