13th January 2019
Rhododendron removal, The Cloud, near Congleton

We'll be taking action to control the spread of this plant which would otherwise shade out the heather that grows on the open moor which slopes up to the top of the Cloud.

27th January 2019
Step building, Astbury Mere Country Park, Congleton
This will be our first task for a couple of years at this popular green space on the edge of Congleton. We'll be improving access for visitors within the park.

Heathland maintenance, The Cloud, near Congleton
A follow up to our work at this site the previous month.

 

24th February 2019
Heathland maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve
We'll be removing small birch and bramble that have encroached onto the valuable, wildlife rich areas of lowland heath.

Footpath maintenance, The Cloud, near Congleton
We'll be using parts of tree trunks to provide edging to the paths, so as to encourage visitors to remain on these routes and reduce the amount of trampling on the surrounding heather.

We’ll be continuing the resurfacing work we began last month.

Heathland maintenance, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve

To protect the rare and wildlife rich habitat of lowland heath we’ll be removing small trees (e.g. birch) that have encroached or re-grown on the heath.

3rd July 2016

Himalayan Balsam bash, Swettenham Meadows Nature Reserve

We’ll be returning to the woodland of this Cheshire Wildlife Trust managed reserve in our annual attempt to control the spread of this rapidly growing plant which would otherwise overwhelm the native flora.
